Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse Review: Best Gaming Mouse

One of the products we’ve most anticipated reviewing, is the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Wireless gaming mouse. Based on the design of the venerable Logitech G502 platform, it boasts all the functionality of its wired predecessors with the added ability to be connected via Bluetooth, a wireless USB receiver or in wired mode. Wireless gaming mice are usually lacking in one feature set or another, maybe they have goo battery life but don’t have excellent button placement or macro features; the G502 Lightspeed Wireless on the other hand has it all!

Unboxing & Overview

The G502 Lightspeed Wireless comes in a well-made, hard box. The front of the box displays the Logitech G and G502 branding, the Lightspeed logo and a large graphic of the G502 wireless mouse.

The back of the box shows off the underbelly of the G502 Lightspeed Wireless, where the included weights can be installed, and the USB wireless receiver can be stored. There is also some information on the key features of the mouse including the Lightspeed Wireless technology, Logitech HERO sensor, weight system and hyperfast scrolling.

The left side of the box displays specifications and key features.

The right side of the box has the Logitech G logo.

After removing the top section of the box, we are presented with one hell of a beautiful mouse, the Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse.

The mouse is well protected with form fitting plastic covering all the important components such as the sensor, power button and feet.

In the box, under the mouse, the accessories and quick start guide are stored.

The weights and wireless USB receiver are stored in an accessory box.

If you remove the G cap which is magnetically attached to the bottom of the mouse, you’ll see a small storage space where the wireless USB receiver can be stored. We really love this feature as it makes traveling with the G502 wireless extremely simple, with no parts or pieces to have to worry about, everything is stored inside the mouse itself.

A USB charging wire is also included in addition to the warranty and quick start booklets.

Here are the main components: the USB charging wire, accessory box with weights and USB dongle and the mouse itself.

Here is the USB dongle plugged into the charging cord. If your computer is located away from the mouse and you are using the mouse in its wireless USB mode, you can extend the location of the USB receiver by plugging it into the dongle and then the charging cord.

The USB receiver stored inside the mouse.

The optional weights are installed here.

Here’s what they look like when installed.

Finally, the two last and individually heaviest weights are installed under the magnetic cap.

Features

Perhaps the most important feature on the G502 wireless mouse is its award-winning ergonomic design and numerous well placed (and sized) customizable buttons. Not only does this mouse feel great in your hands after hours of use but the Logitech G Hub software (which we’ll expand on later) allows users to map advanced commands to each button. The level of customization on this mouse is truly limitless.

The right side of the mouse features a comfortable grip. As with the rest of the G502 Lightspeed Wireless, the materials feel luxurious and look to stand the test of time and heavy use each day.

The most popular feature is of course the wireless connectivity which can be configure via Bluetooth or a tiny USB receiver which is what we used. We couldn’t tell we were on a wireless mouse, there were no disconnects or lag issues whatsoever. The G502 Lightspeed uses Logitech’s Hero sensor which is a mind boggling 16,000K sensor. This means you’ll never want for DPI with a G502 Lightspeed wireless! It truly is a fine sensor that tracks well on various mousepad surfaces and as with the rest of the mouse, it never let us down whether gaming for hours on end or during day to day office tasks.

We got about a week of battery life out of the G502 Lightspeed wireless per charge, we used the mouse for several hours each day. For us, this was great and charging once a week is no hassle however for those who ever want to charge their G502, there is another option. The G502 Lightspeed wireless is of course Powerplay compatible which is pretty much cheating given that you’ll never need to plug the mouse in to charge! Pairing the G502 Lightspeed wireless with a Powerplay mat makes for a very comfortable setup.

Logitech G Hub Software Review

One of the best aspects of Logitech gaming mice and keyboards is their latest Logitech G Hub software. The default screen displays your connected peripherals, with a battery life remaining percentage and icon.

Here you can change the lighting effects on the G502 for both the primary lighting and the logo. You can change the colors as well as the effect with every color in the spectrum as an option and numerous effect options such as fixed, breathing, etc.

Brightness and rate can also be changed for those who desire even more control. Here’s the primary lighting, we chose an RGB rotation setting.

We chose yellow for the logo here.

Here are just a few of the many key commands that can be assigned to the mouse buttons. You can choose from preset commands, set your own macros or actions. Logitech has come a long way from their old “Logitech Gaming Software”. The G Hub is extremely well laid out and dead simple to use.

Here’s a few of the available preset system commands.

The settings screen allows you to customize start up behavior, lighting inactivity preferences to save battery as well as enable automatic updates.

Conclusion

We have enjoyed using the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Wireless gaming mouse more than any other mouse we’ve tested. It is simply the best mouse in the world. There’s no comparison. It has the best wireless sensor, expansive macro command functionality, stunning battery life and a perfect design which feels extremely comfortable even when using the mouse all day. Logitech took one of the best mice constructed, added their industry leading wireless technology and created the pinnacle gaming mouse!

We highly recommend the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Wireless and are proud to award it our Editor’s Choice award!
